Shinatatsu Ramen

our very first dinner in japan is of chinese origin, but of japanese perfection.

just minutes away from the shinagawa train station, is a ramen stadium where you can try ramen from 7 different ramen stores. every store is the crème de la crème of japan’s ¥1000 ramen stores, and you can’t go wrong with any of them. here’s what we chose:

Shinatatsu Ramen Stadium
Sinasoba Special (Salt) - ¥850 - 5/5
Sinasoba Special (Chicken) with extra pork and egg - ¥950 - 5/5

we ordered using the vending machine at the store front, handed our tickets to the friendly waiter, and were ushered to our seat. the meal came with complimentary iced water and a mysterious appetizer… which we wondered whether to try, observed the japanese customers, and decided it was best left alone. i would rank this ramen really near the top; a close second to ippudo on their homeground.

shinatatsu ramen
opened: 1100 – 2300
price: under ¥1000 a bowl
address: 3-26-20 Takanawa, Minato-ku, Tokyo
url: http://www.shinatatsu.com (in Japanese)

to get there:
exit at shinagawa station, turn left. walk down the street, past a bus stop, and it’ll be on your left in about 5 minutes. it’s somewhat recessed into a semi-basement level, so keep your eyes down.
